Hartford Officials Release Crime Stats, Gun Violence Up

City officials are launching a new safety initiative in response to a recent wave of reports of gun violence in the city.

In less than a two-month period, between March 16 and May 10, there have been five gun-related homicides and 50 shooting victims in 36 confirmed gun-related incidents. All together during that period, there have been 188 unconfirmed reports of shots being fired. Click here to read more.

A DEMONSTRATION IN STAMFORD
TO URGE COMMON SENSE GUN LAWS

On Wednesday, April 16, the anniversary of the terrible tragedy that took 32 innocent lives at Virginia Tech University, Connecticut citizens in Stamford and New Haven joined more than 70 cities and towns across America in events to remember that tragedy - as well as all victims and survivors of gun violence - and call on Congress to act to strengthen the Brady background check system by closing the gun show loophole.

 

 
   
 

Supreme Court to Decide on Right to Bear Arms

The Supreme Court has announced that it will hear a case that is expected to revisit one of the most persistent and controversial arguments to engage Americans since the earliest days of nationhood - the right to bear arms.

Next March, the Court will hear the case of District of Columbia v. Heller. This will be the first opportunity in seventy years for the Court to reconsider the full scope of the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Read more
